Dying Light 2 review or another story about clichéd feminism

Hello! Friends, before moving directly to the review, I would like to tell you what will be waiting for you in the next 15 minutes (or a little less). Due to recent events, major foreign publications have stopped selling games in Russia. In addition, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo closed their online stores. That is why I decided to make a series of materials about games that many gamers probably have in their collections, but which they are unlikely to have ever touched. And we’ll start with one of the latest AAA blockbusters – Dying Light 2: Stay Human .

If in the world of cinema the theme of zombies is an indicator of the director’s lack of taste and the screenwriter’s imagination, then in the world of video games everything is not so simple. Games, and especially such fervent trash, can be counted on the fingers of one hand. And, as sad as it is to admit, the second Dying Light is not one of those. Not in the sense that this is a bad game, but in the fact that there is no meat cut, like in the same State of Decay. The game generally has a surprisingly serious mood. Is it good or bad, let’s find out.

Plot and side activities

The premise of the game is https://7criccasino.co.uk/login/ as follows. The main character, Aiden, is in Villedor, where he thinks his sister Mia, from whom he was separated as a child, is located. In the suburbs he is met by Spike, a friend and fellow pilgrim. In the game world, this word is used to describe couriers who deliver information or items between settlements. He tells the protagonist that you can’t just get into the city. However, he managed to come to an agreement with a local resident, who, in exchange for a certain service, promises to help the hero get beyond the walls. After saying goodbye to Spike, Aiden heads to the meeting place. We’ll talk about locations a little later, but I’ll immediately note that before the metropolis you go through an introduction to a fairly vast area, where you are asked to study the basic mechanics and are briefly introduced. I want to express my great respect to the developers. The player will no longer return to this place during the passage. And despite this, it is designed no worse than the main location.

I want to say a few words about the emotionality of the story. She won’t make you cry, those who were waiting for snot, relax. There is only one emotional moment here, and I missed it due to the wrong choice. However, following the story is still quite interesting. Unfortunately, already in the second half, even closer to the finale, when the creators have not yet revealed all their cards, you already understand how the story can end. Despite the many endings, globally they are not much different from each other . And if you think that now I will scold our Polish friends for the lack of variety, then you are deeply mistaken. She is here and she is very coolly woven into the plot. Some decisions made at the beginning of the passage shoot almost at the end of the story. In addition, there are many forks in front of which you stand and think: “Damn, where better to go. Both that option and this one are interesting.”. And it’s incredibly cool when a game can evoke such feelings. This means that hours of work and mountains of scribbled pages of the script were not in vain.

There really are a lot of choices. But only those made during story missions can affect the plot

Characters

Before writing the review, I specifically read old interviews with Techland developers. Timon Smektala, the lead game designer of the game, said that the game will have strong female characters. Moreover, you won’t be able to have a romantic relationship with them. God forbid the community gets angry that some guy dared to touch a feminist.

No, a strong female character is not a bad thing if the developers don’t emphasize it. Unfortunately, the Poles emphasized. Now I’ll say something seditious, but The Last of Us 2 has less agenda than Dying Light 2. I’m not sexist and female characters can be cool. You don’t have to look far for examples. For example, in Red Dead Redemption 2 there is Sadie Adler, who participates in shootouts along with men. In Metro Last Light there is Anya, who is generally considered the best sniper of the Order. I can continue this list for a very long time. But these heroines do not stand out from the general background, they are the same characters as everyone else.
