He could show up at the studio with prostitutes and start insulting the producer, but he did it so skillfully that he continued to be popular and no one could imagine a replacement for him.
Andy Kaufman died of lung cancer at 45. Nobody believed until the very end that this would happen, but he died, and with him the show died, the Kaufman show.
